Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What time will the races start and how long will they last?

A. There is no set starting or finishing times. There are several variables that effect the races, the number of riders, the number and type of corrections to Moto sheets, computer glitches and so on. The Moto sheets will be posted ASAP after sign-ups close and the races generally start within 30 minutes or less after they are posted.

Q. Why does Washington use the Total Points system rather than the ABA Transfer system?

A. Washington State was racing under the Total Points system long before the ABA came into existence. The track operators at that time made the decision to continue using the Total Points system.

Q. Why do some riders have very skinny tires on their bikes?

A. The answer is real simple, weight. The more weight you can take off the bike supposedly the faster your rider can go.

Q. What happens if I miss one of my Moto's

A. Washington State has a rule you will not find in the ABA rule book that states a rider who does not start and finish all their Moto's will not be scored higher in the final standings for a race than a rider who races all their Moto's.

Q. Should I keep track of my finishes at all the races I race?

A. Yes, you will need to know how many 1st place finishes you have working toward your next skill level. You may also want to check the points you think you have earned compared to what is published in the BMXer. If there is ever any discrepancy you will need to send the ABA a detailed list of all your races.

Q. If I am racing on a temporary membership does any of my finishes count toward my advancement in skill level?

A. No, a temporary membership is just what it says, temporary. You do not earn any points and the ABA does not keep track of any riders finishes on a temporary membership.

Q. Do I have to qualify to be able to race at an ABA National?

A. No, any ABA member can race at at any ABA event except the Gold Cup Championships and the Race of Champions. These are the only races you have to qualify for, but you do have to be a full member.

Q. If I do not get my own class can I get my money back and not race?
